BOTANICAL HAND EMBROIDERY WORKSHOPS

STITCHING WITH NATURE

A hand embroidery workshop

In this workshop, Katerina will teach participants a series of hand embroidery techniques for how dried plant materials can be used as alternative textile embellishments.  Learning how to incorporate unusual materials such as lavender seeds, cornflowers, dahlia petals, and rosemary together with traditional hand stitching, whether you are interested in textiles, gardening, meditation, or would just like to learn something new, this workshop promises to be soothing and sensorial.

All materials will be provided by Katerina, including a varied selection of dried plant materials, homegrown or sustainably foraged from her local surroundings in the Malvern hills. No experience is necessary, you are encouraged to take each stitch slowly and learn at a pace that is comfortable for you.

THREADED PETALS

A hand embroidery workshop

Threaded Petals invites you to discover Katerina’s unique process for creating delicate textile structures that are threaded with earth's ephemeral offerings.

In this workshop you’ll find calm in the rhythmic repetition of slowly hand-threading petals, seeds, and flowers individually. Guided by Katerina, you will be introduced to needlelace stitches and knotting techniques. Each stage offers its own complexity — allowing beginners to gently progress at a comfortable pace, and for those whom are more experienced embroiderers, the ability  to delve into finer, more intricate techniques. This workshop is a personal interpretation to needlelace – a quiet homage to the traditions of the craft, reimagined with Katerina’s  unique sensibility.

Katerina’s practice delicately blends nature and craft. In 2022, she spent time working in the archive of The Lace Guild Museum in Stourbridge, the largest lace organisation in the UK. Learning about “Punto in aria”, an early form of Italian needlelace, translating to  “stitch in air”, inspired her to reinterpret the intricacy of needlelace techniques, through her own artistic language — intertwining horticulture and textile, flora and thread.
